Dame Edna & Barry Humphries's Final Farewell Tour

Closed January 18, 2015

'Dame Edna sweeps all before her, Barry Humphries is bowing out at the top of his game.'

The Times

Why See Dame Edna & Barry Humphries's Final Farewell Tour?

Finding fame as far back as 1955, Dame Edna Everage, her cats eye glasses and 'wisteria blue' hair and love of gladioli, have gone on to become part of the cultural landscape, inspiring many satirists in her wake. She has chosen to finally say a touching good bye to the USA, after a sell out tour of Europe and her home land, Australia.

'Eat, Pray, Laugh' has been promised by the woman herself to be an 'empowering' evening, with 'meditations on loss, gender, climate change and gay marriage,' joined in lending her unique viewpoints by long-suffering 'manager' and octogenarian, Barry Humphries, former Australian cultural attache Sir Les Patterson, and the ever ghostly Sandy Stone.

Once retired from the limelight, Dame Edna plans to continue spending her time (as described in best selling autobiography My Gorgeous Life) gracing world leaders with her presence and advice, jetting to her myriad homes and catching up with trusted friend, The Queen.

A not to be missed opportunity to see the lady herself live as she says her final 'farewell, possums' to the world, in typical outrageous style.

Background

Created by biting satirist Barry Humphrey in Australia in the mid 1950s, Dame Edna began life as a character to keep his colleagues smiling as they travelled with their production of Twelfth Night. Morphing into Mrs Norm Everage, Edna quickly took on a life of her own, as a parody of Melbourne housewives and Australian Society of the time. It wasn't till the 1980s that she was made a Dame, and became the wildly glamorous, hilarious figure we know and love today. Humphries has said of his decision to retire, that at 80, he is beginning to feel 'a bit senior' and hopes this tour will give beloved Edna, the foul mouthed Sir Les Patterson and other characters the send off they deserve.
