back for another boogie
Disco-dancing around the theatre scene for the best part of a decade, this David Byrne and Fatboy Slim-scored musical returns to New York to transform the Broadway Theatre into a dance club! A fully immersive show, Here Lies Love is a vibrant look at the life of former First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos. With direction from Alex Timbers, sets from Hamilton's David Korins and choreography from Annie B Parson, it looks like this fresh revival will be one of the highlights of the 23/24 Broadway season!
What is the story?
Originally created as a concept album in collaboration between David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, it was developed shortly afterward into a disco-themed rock musical. Loosely following the narrative structure of Evita, Here Lies Loves shows us the rapid rise to fame of Imelda Marcos through her marriage to the despot Ferdinand Marcos from young dreamer to stateswoman. But power and pride come before a fall as she discovers, when she descends into infamy through her outrageous spending sprees (more than 2,700 pairs of shoes) and opulent lifestyle, while her husband tortured thousands through his 20-year dictatorship.
