Here Lies Love closure date

Author SaadiqahSaadiqah, November 9th, 2023

The Broadway show is currently playing at the Broadway Theater

The David Byrne and Fatboy Slim-scored musical have announced that Sunday, November 26, 2023, will be the last performance due to low ticket sales. It is said that due to the reconstructions made to the venue, by removing the orchestra seating to replace it with a dance floor - that this could have been the choice that changed their time on Broadway. Unfortunately, this alteration was expensive, which meant relying on selling out tickets to make a profit. It has been speculated that the show costs a total of $22 million, requiring the show to sell out most nights to balance the costs.

The Broadway transfer will have played 33 previews and 149 performances since opening on July 20, 2023. Get your tickets before it closes!

What's the story?

Originally created as a concept album in collaboration between David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, it was developed shortly afterward into a disco-themed rock musical. Loosely following the narrative structure of Evita, Here Lies Loves shows us the rapid rise to fame of Imelda Marcos through her marriage to the despot Ferdinand Marcos from young dreamer to stateswoman. But power and pride come before a fall as she discovers, when she descends into infamy through her outrageous spending sprees (more than 2,700 pairs of shoes) and opulent lifestyle, while her husband tortured thousands through his 20-year dictatorship.
