Celebrating its 70th anniversary!
The infinitely popular Cole Porter musical celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2018, and what better way to celebrate than a sparkling new production? Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre presents the multi-Tony Award-winning hit as part of its 2017/18 season, directed by Alan Paul with the book by Samuel and Bella Spewack. A meta-musical that takes place within a play, features music and lyrics by the immortal Porter including Too Darn Hot, Brush Up Your Shakespeare and Another Op'nin, Another Show.
What is it about?
The scene is set at the out-of-town try-out of a new musical version of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew where sparks fly on stage and off as sparring between the ex-married co-stars threatens to derail opening night. Throw two gun-slinging debt collectors into the mix, and you have a laugh a minute, will-they, won't they set up, where the show may just be scuppered before it opens. This shrewd musical sticks its tongue firmly in cheek as it mirrors themes and characters from the Bard's original comedy!
