Augustin Hadelich Performs Beethoven's Violin Concerto
Ludvico Morlot and the Seattle Symphony welcome Grammy-winning violin virtuoso Augustin Hadelich for a three-night program of Debussy, Janacek and Ludwig van Beethoven. The Juilliard alumnus is fast becoming one of the world's top string players, having performed with most of the world's leading orchestras and demonstrated his poetic sensitivity, courageous repertoire and brilliant technique on their historic stages. In 2018, he won the accolade of Musical America's Instrumentalist of the Year.
The evening begins with the flair and imagination of Debussy's Gigues, the first section of his three-section orchestral work Images Pour Orchestre. Following this is The Cunning Little Vixen Suit, Janacek's deeply moving, two-part operatic tribute to the natural world as told through the story of a female fox caught by a gamekeeper. The evening closes with Beethoven's only violin concerto, the lyrical, tender and dramatic masterpiece that sunk into obscurity during his lifetime but is now regared as one of the greatest of all violin concertos.
