A Match Made In Musical Heaven
Known for their matchless techniques, sense of artistry and collaborations with the world's leading orchestras, German violin virtuoso Leonidas Kavakos and Italian piano master Enrico Pace are respected solo instrumentalists of great renown. When the pair join forces, it is simply the stuff of musical legend, as exemplified in their many critically acclaimed recorded albums. The proven pairing takes center stage for a hotly anticipated recital on Seattle Symphony turf, featuring the works of Beethoven, Prokofiev, Bartok and Enescu.
The evening's proceedings begin with Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 4 in A minor, an enigmatic yet witty lesser known work that moves from a sparse beginning to a fugue-like middle and fiery, virtuosic finale. This is followed by the dark and brooding genius Prokofiev's Violin Sonata No. 1 and Bartok's Gypsy, Hungarian and Transylvanian influenced Rhapsody No. 1 for both instruments. The program ends with one of Enescu's most critically respected and popular works, the Sonata No. 3 in A minor. Steeped in the Romanian folk style, the piece evokes a mysterious nocturnal world before giving way to the high flying rhythms of a high spirited dance-like finale.
