Baroque Opera At Its Finest
Join the Seattle Symphony for an evening of sublime, hot-blooded Italian Opera this Spring! The world class ensemble will be joined by the multi-talented Russian muso Dmitry Sinkovksy who will not only lead the orchestra as conductor, but stir passions with both his resonant countertenor voice and violin. Up and coming Russian soprano Julia Lezhneva also lends her dulcet, angelic tones to the exciting program of Handel and Vivaldi.
The evening revolves around the two great Baroque composers Arias and Duets, starting with the biting political satire of Handel's Overture to Agrippina, an opera about the scheming of Agrippina, mother of roman emperor Nero. The lilting melodies and harmonies of Handel's Concerto Grosso follow, whilst the ebullient, soaring strings of Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in D Major bring the program to a rousing close.
Program:
Handel - Overture to Agrippina
Vivaldi - Arias and Duets
Handel - Arias and Duets
Handel - Concerto Grosso in F major
Vivaldi - Violin Concerto in D major
