A toreador on a motor bike doing an Elvis aria at a night club mike! Dancing that was more skanky than sensuous with a cast that wouldn’t have known a flamenco if it hit them in the face. Such a shame as the voices were magnificent. Just shoot the director.

I have been privileged to see operas in many parts of the world, and I have never seen an opera as poorly performed as "Carmen" yesterday. I go to the Opera to see a performance that embodies music and concepts of the author. I can get enough social commentary in the media, not on an opera stage.
