With all the right ingredients for an effervescent romantic comedy, Gaetano Donizetti and Felice Ramani's Elixir of Love adds a sparkle to Seattle Opera's 2022/23 season. Starring Georgian soprano Salome Jicia in her Seattle Opera debut as the fair Adina, and Samoan powerhouse tenor Amitai Pati as her bewitched suitor Nemorino, don't miss this irresistible production as it graces McCaw Hall this summer.
What is the story?
Nemorino, a poor villager dreams of winning the heart of one Adina, a beautiful (and rich) local landowner. But Adina rejects his advances in favor of a more free outlook on love. Enter the dashing Sergeant Belcore who attempts to trap the wily Adina in marriage.
On overhearing the story of Tristan & Isolde, Nemorino is inspired by a certain love potion and goes to the traveling quack doctor Dulcamara for help. The doctor happily takes his money in return for an enchanting elixir (really just cheap red wine) and sends Nemorino out on his way, hoping he'll mistake drunkenness for magic as he attempts once more to win his beloved.
