WHAT’S COOL AND WHAT’S NOT COOL.

The kids in this play are what’s cool. The kids play their instruments and they play well. There is one little girl who sings- Grier Burke, who brings the house down! She had people flipping through their playbills after hearing her belt. The woman who plays Ms. Mullins was AMAZING! What was not cool - the Dewey Finn character. Merritt J. You couldn’t understand a word he said! His vocals weren’t the best. I’d really like to see the kids again but couldn’t stomach seeing him again.

SCHOOL OF ROCK’S “AMAZING GRACE” GRIER BURKE SINGS

Honestly, the children ARE the play. I know it’s supposed to be about Jack Black but you don’t really think about the adults when the children are on stage. The little girl, Grier Burke, who sings Amazing Grace was the most memorable in the show next to the piano player. Those children gave such an awesome performance that I am giving them 4 stars. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because there were times when th adult ensemble actors ‘ scenes went on too long.

THE SINGERS STEAL THE SHOW!

So I got to see this show 2 times! Once with a date and the second time with my good friend’s daughter. I decided to take my bff’s daughter because she needed to see Grier Burke and the little girl Iara, who plays Summer. I am certain most people just look at the kids playing instruments, that’s nice, they certainly are awesome (though I’m not convinced the people in the orchestra pit aren’t helping back up their sound). If you go to the show be sure to Watch these little actors. I’m all for girl power and they were the perfect images for a little girl to see! Tomika, (Grier Burke) overcame shyness and stood up to speak up for herself. She sang beautifully and got applause in between the song BOTH TIMES I saw it. Summer, (Iara N.) has her own song showing her being in charge and it was a wonderful song! It was surprising that she could sing because they made fun of her voice in the beginning!

WHERE DID THEY FIND THESE KIDS?

This show makes you laugh, smile, and cry! Yes I tested up when Tomika sang a song pleading for Dewey to come back and when she sang Amazing Grace. I’m a sucker for vocals and Grier Burke has them! The guitarist was fun to watch as well!

Kids, female lead outstanding- production fun and rocking

WORSE THEN THE MOVIE

Not a fan of Jack Black in any venue, however he was stellar compared to the Mirvish production lead. The kids unfortunately, had mostly terrible music and lyrics to sing. Much differed from movie. Not memorable. Stilted over acting. Disappointed. See Charlie and the Chocolate Factory instead for some amazing talent.
