The Gershwin's landmark Opera returns for tantalizing revival
Last seen at the Seattle Opera in 2011 in a much-heralded production including a tantalizing choral arrangement and full orchestra, the company return to the Gershwin's landmark piece. Whilst retaining 2011's most beloved assets, the story of Porgy, Bess and the inhabitants of Catfish Row will benefit from a brand new staging, courtesy of Glimmerglass.
One of the 20th Century's most iconic and important operas and the first American opera to enter La Scala's repertoire, Porgy and Bess is a portrait of the South during the Jim Crow Era that weaves together the tension of the time with threads of humor and romance, and of course those classic songs -including 'Summertime', 'I Got Plenty of Nothing' and 'It Ain't Necessarily So' - creating a rhapsodic tapestry with themes as fresh as ever that keeps you on the edge of your seat to the last note.
