A Night With Janis Joplin

A Night With Janis Joplin at 5th Avenue Theatre

Why see A Night With Janis Joplin?

En route to Seattle for a three-week run!

A Night With Janis Joplin has already made a name for itself playing Broadway, and now lands at the 5th Avenue Theatre as part of their 2015-16 season! Whilst the national tour continues to do the rounds, this official production was conceived, written, and directed by Broadway director Randy Johnson, with choreography by Patricia Wilcox and musical direction by Tyler Evans.

The production is a musical journey celebrating the inspirations and music of the tragic and immensely talented Joplin. Her distinctive voice, charisma and public battle with drugs and alcohol made her one of Rock and Roll's most memorable stars, though she was only in the limelight for the final three years of her life.

The show takes the form of a Joplin concert at the peak of her fame, transporting the audience back in time with an authentic stage design of retro proportions. Throughout the course of the evening, Joplin punctuates her rousing performances of classics like 'Mercedes Benz' and 'Piece of My Heart'.

Man who cluck like duck but taste like chicken.

Joplin and the woman blues stars that influenced her.

First 10 minutes started off a bit slow. Next 10 minutes were better. Next 10 minutes were great. The rest of the show was mind blowingly fantastic. The black woman blues singers were fantastic. The Joplin singer was fantastic. The sound initially started out loud, but then they got it perfectly. Eventually the audience screaming and clapping actually was much louder then the show volume. Initially the crowd was very reserved. The singers and the band brought out the conservative crowd, where everyone was singing and sort of dancing. That was amusing because many were in their 70's. Had Joblin lived she would be 76. Old hippies going crazy. It was a sight to behold. It brought people together to a simpler time. ... Read more

Awesome show!!

This was an extraordinary, exceptional show! I enjoyed it immensely. Mary was spot on Janis Joplin. Several standing ovations that were well deserved. Loved everything about this performance. The other ladies in the cast sang their heart out also. The band itself was so talented. Would love to see this show again. Short of hearing Janis sing in person I felt that I did hear Janis. Lovely evening. Definitely 5 star performance. ... Read more
