Rent at 5th Avenue Theatre

Why see Rent?

RENT hits the in , ,

An all-new staging of Jonathan Larson's Rent, featuring a talented cast of young, local performers.

This musical is based on Puccini's opera La Boheme, which portrays a group of poverty-stricken artists living unconventional (or "Bohemian") lives in the attics of 19th-Century Paris; the opera's young lovers are tragically separated when one dies of the ubiquitous Victorian plague, tuberculosis. Rent, on the other hand, is set in late 20th Century New York; its characters are young filmmakers, songwriters, street musicians, and performance artists who live in an industrial loft. They struggle with romantic relationships, creative blocks, rent payments, drug addiction, and with the new plague called AIDS.

The performance was overall awesome! Mark, Angel, Collins, Maurine, and Joanne were that stars of the show. Mimi was a huge disappointment in every aspect, and roger was a bit over the top with his acting and got a little screamy when he sings. The show its self was just like the movie and the production was breath taking!!!! I have been such a huge fan and that was a huge highlight in my life was being able to see it on broadway! I loved it!!!! ... Read more

Just saw rent at Stratford last night. Had only seen the movie previously. I found this production very enjoyable and powerful in moments. At the onset Stratford Mark was more engaging than movie Mark and knocked it out of the park with the tango number and everything else. Maureen is tough if not impossible to replicate but I loved Stratford Maureen and Stratford Joanne in all their numbers.. I particularly loved Stratford Mimi...Movie Mimi fell flat for me but Stratford Mimi was vibrant portrayed issues and had a much better singing voice. Stratford Tom Collins was excellent. Just loved this production much more than the movie. Thank you all for your effort. ... Read more
