At his works premiere in 1813, which he conducted himself, Beethoven stated that Symphony No. 7 was among one of his best pieces. The work was written while Beethoven was convalescing in the spa town of Teplitz, and has been theorized to be a statement against Napoleon and his domination of Europe.
