Enjoy Tchaikovsky & Beethoven In A Relaxed Atmosphere

As part of their innovative Untuxed Concert Series, The Seattle Symphony welcomes you to revel in the aural splendour of Tchaikovsky and Beethoven without the pomp and ceremony of a more traditional classical concert. Lead by rising superstar conductor Ruth Reinhardt, the relaxed, 'intermissionless' program features the same musicians of the symphony, just out of their usual black tie uniform. There's no need to polish and preen your plumage - the dress code is casual for this event!

The evening begins with Tchaikovsky's celebrated Rococo Variations, a nostalgic work written in 1877 inspired by the classical masterworks of Mozart. Eighteen year-old British cello prodigy Sheku Kanneh-Mason joins the ensemble to lend his bow to the piece's long lyrical melodies and virtuosic flights. The program then closes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, an invigorating and unsusual first foray into symphonic greatness that is often overshadowed by its big brothers the ninth and the fifth.
