The modern dance visionary Kate Wallich returns to the Moore Theater with Industrial Ballet
Seattle-based choreographer, director and teacher Kate Wallich formed her non-profit project-based dance company The YC with Italian dancer Lavinia Vago in 2010 with an aim to create and support a community of artists with uncompromising creative vision. Don't miss the hotly anticipated return of Wallich's Industrial Ballet, an impactful and dramatic piece of modern dance fusion that first took a bow on the Moore Theater stage back in 2016.
Banish all thoughts of tutus and soft pink, because this is a ballet with a gothic edge. Inspired by Wallich's interest in social media and its intrinsic influence on art and human relationships, Industrial Ballet's solos, duets and ensemble pieces bristle with electricity, isolation and exquisite fury as its dancers deftly blend arabesques and leaps with hip hop twists and flashes of contemporary vocabulary. A loud electronic score and live on stage band pulse in time to the dancers, weaving seamlessly into a stripped back dynamic that feels more like a rock show than a night at the ballet.
