WHAT A FEELING . . . OF BETRAYAL!

What happened to this show? We were in stunned disappointment throughout the show. The lead singer was nasal and had little lyrical qualities. Other singing was shallow and never really opened up to the rich and soaring qualities that make a musical performance come alive. Often the voices fell or went flat when the vocal energy should have lifted and soared. The one exception was Kiki whose rich, smooth, sensual voice and presence was a delight. The cast seemed to be reading their lines rather than living them. The dancing was mostly awkward and slightly out of sync. Part of this may be the choreography which was puzzling, and the equipment or mixing which was obviously an issue. There was some redemption with the last number where the dancing was vibrant, toned, precise yet creative and powerfully energetic. Yet I still left the theatre wondering how this show could have gotten on the Broadway Theatre League list. I do not remember any other show that was on this level.

NOT VERY IMPRESSED

The writing, choreography, production, singing and dancing are at best on par with a good high school production. The professionalism pretty much stopped with the ticket takers. The best part was the audience participation for the first three songs where everyone got to yell "get her a microphone" every time the female lead spoke or sing. The nights most heartfelt cheering was when they finally turned on her Mike. Sadly they should have instead turned everyone's off.
